Happy to contribute to this nice piece by @apoorva_nyc on the potential for using digital x-rays & AI-based software to screen for TB, Covid-19 & other conditions.
Software is no longer the issue. Expensive hardware is what I'm most worried about.

These Algorithms Could Bring an End to the World’s Deadliest Killer: In rural India and other places where tuberculosis is rampant, A.I. that scans lung X-rays might eliminate the scourge. nytimes.com/2020/11/20/hea…

Happy to see a hospital and physicians I know in a @nytimes story by @apoorva_nyc.
Drs Ashita and Deepak are an inspirational couple.
Memory: Saw Comet Hale-Bopp sitting outside that hospital.
And yes, improved #TB diagnosis matters a lot.
qXR app- #AI based tool allows you to scan chest X-rays. If it finds evidence of Tuberculosis (even Covid & others), it assigns a risk score. Drs can then perform confirmatory tests on high risk patients. Clinician+ AI gives great results.
"If this was to be made available to every X-ray center in rural India, I think we could beat TB"
Heartwarming to see AI for medical imaging reach remote Indian districts like Simdega and help fight deadly diseases like TB (by @apoorva_nyc)
Diagnosis is increasingly powered by #artificialIntelligence and the internet. In less than a minute, a new app on a phone or computer can scan an X ray for signs of tuberculosis, #covid19 and 27 other conditions. @nytimes @apoorva_nyc

NEW: In Simdega, one of the poorest districts in India, the medical center is in a clearing of the forest, and serves tribals beset with poverty and alcoholism — even among the children.
It's also where an AI based app is helping to diagnose TB
