BREAKING: More than a dozen experts are calling on the Biden administration to take immediate action to limit airborne transmission of the virus in high-risk settings like meatpacking plants and prisons
@apoorva_nyc My husband's federal workplace has done nothing to improve ventilation and is still making non-essential employees who can work from home come in. If Biden can't even get federal offices following best practices, it feels kinda hopeless that private industry will?
"(Dr. Michaels led OSHA during the Obama administration; the agency has not had a permanent leader since his departure.)"
During a pandemic when workplace standards could sicken people?! POTUS needs a capable OSHA head STAT. twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/st…
Important article here- & as is clear from my stance on #BetterMasks - frontline workers deserve better ventilation as well, urgently.
Better PPE & ventilation will go a long way in many of these workplace settings where infections have been prevalent. #covid19 twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/st…pic.twitter.com/c0z4RdkFCo
Occupational health & safety around COVID is a major issue.
CDC + OSHA need to formally acknowledge the risk of aerosol transmission.
Workplaces need better ventilation, vaccination, & high quality masks. twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/st…pic.twitter.com/5Sd0BGvQRL
“If we properly acknowledge [that the virus is transmitted mostly through the air], and get the right recommendations and guidance into place, this is our chance to end the pandemic in the next six months,” she added. “If we don’t do this, it could very well drag on.” twitter.com/apoorva_nyc/st…
“The C.D.C. has not emphasized the risk of aerosol transmission enough.” — @celinegounder in a new and important story from @apoorva_nyc
Amen. I worked in an OSHA compliance office for a summer and am *shocked* at the lax workplace standards for Covid.

This opening line by @apoorva_nyc crushes me.
"NEARLY A YEAR after scientists showed that" covid is airborne "more than a dozen experts are calling on the Biden admin to take immediate action to limit airborne transmission"
Took a full year. Wow.
It’s time to be clear about how to keep people safe, and that includes clean air indoors and enhanced access to high quality masks for those in certain indoor environments. via @apoorva_nyc @NYTimes nytimes.com/2021/02/17/hea…

I have no idea what @CDCgov means when it says N95s were not recommended for the “general public for reasons supported by science, comfort, costs and practicality.” They are clearly more effective based on science and I find them more comfortable too. nytimes.com/2021/02/17/hea…

Scientists Call on @CDCgov to Set Air Standards for Workplaces, Now: The agency has not fully reckoned with airborne transmission of the coronavirus in settings like hospitals, schools and meatpacking plants, experts said nytimes.com/2021/02/17/hea…
To stop the 4th wave, save lives & return to normalcy, we must implement precautions to control aerosol transmission @apoorva_nyc
