We should never have reached 500,000 American lives lost. This happened because the POTUS unleashed anti-science forces that first accelerated here in Texas in 2015. I spent the last 6 yrs trying to contain it but with no help, and then Trump blew it open nytimes.com/2021/02/21/us/…

@PeterHotez Indeed. It goes to show how difficult it can be for individuals (on their own, or in groups of professionals) to contain and address failures occurring at a systemic level.
@PeterHotez You did your best Dr. Hotez. Just think how many people are still alive due to your efforts, not the lives lost to misinformation spreaders.
